‘Sami Blood’ is a declaration of love to those who left and those who stayed. Elle Marja is a young Sami girl from a reindeer herding home, who is exposed to the racism of the 1930s at her boarding school. She finally chooses to run away and “become Swedish”. In the struggle to gain status and become a real Swedish girl, she is forced to break her bonds with her family and deny the culture she grew up in.
